Province by province: what makes each plate different

Pakistan is a land of rich cultural diversity, and this diversity shows up in the most unexpected places—including our vehicle licence plates. Each province manages its own Excise & Taxation department, resulting in distinct plate designs that reflect regional heritage and local administrative priorities.

Punjab: Universal and Tech-Enabled

Punjab features the clean, blue-and-white universal plate layout. These plates display the "PUNJAB" name clearly, along with a blue top bar and a digital QR code that traffic police can scan on the spot. They are designed to match international legibility standards.

Sindh: Cultural Pride and History

Sindh plates are famous for displaying a beautifully detailed cultural boundary line or the famous "Ajrak" pattern strip. They also depict a representation of the ancient Mohenjo-daro Priest-King statue, paying homage to one of the oldest civilizations in human history.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK): Scenic Landmarks

KPK plates prominently feature the Bab-e-Khyber (the Khyber Pass Gate) symbol on the left or top. This iconic historical gateway symbolizes the proud heritage and hospitality of the province.

Balochistan: Bold and Minimalist

Balochistan plates focus on absolute legibility, featuring a clean white background with bold black letters. The province emblem, featuring the local juniper branch and shield, is subtly printed at the center or corner of the plate.
